The Challenge

Sterigenics International, a leader in sterilization services, faced ergonomic challenges related to manual handling processes at their Gamma Irradiation Facilities in Gurnee and Schaumburg, IL, and Fort Worth, TX. The company identified the need to reduce ergonomic risks and improve workplace safety, particularly in the loading and unloading of totes, which involved significant manual labor. To address these challenges, Sterigenics engaged The Catalyst Group to develop and implement an Ergonomic Framework aimed at reducing risk and enhancing administrative controls.

The Solution

The primary goals of the project were to reduce ergonomic risks associated with manual handling tasks at the identified sites, develop and implement a comprehensive Ergonomic Framework that could be scaled across additional facilities and to enhance the safety culture and competency among employees through targeted training and coaching. The Catalyst Group:

Conducted detailed ergonomic risk assessments across the three sites.

Created ergonomic framework including standardized ergonomic techniques and the drafting of a GEHS Ergonomic Standard.

Provided continuous project management support, ensuring alignment with project objectives and maintaining high-quality deliverables.

Implemented a training strategy.

Reducing ergonomic risks associated with manual tasks, and developing and implementing comprehensive Ergonomic Frameworks on a global level.
